We are thrilled to announce on Saturday, June 4th, the Charleston Parks Conservancy and City of Charleston will host a ribbon-cutting and grand reopening celebration of the new Colonial Lake.
The event will run from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. and all activities are open to the public! Mayor John Tecklenburg will join the festivities for a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 11 a.m., followed by lunch and activities for all ages!
Conservancy volunteers will lead horticultural tours of the park’s gardens, visitors will be able to learn about Colonial Lake’s history with Nic Butler from the Charleston County Public Library and City & Conservancy staff will be on hand to discuss the renovation process. Enjoy a stroll around the lake while watching model sailboat races and plein air painting demonstrations from local artists!
Children of all ages are encouraged to participate in a park-wide scavenger hunt, enjoy games of hopscotch and jump-rope, or make their mark at Colonial Lake with sidewalk chalk creations.
Music and entertainment will be provided by John Cusatis and food and drinks will be available for purchase from some of Charleston’s best food trucks, including Smoke BBQ, Short Grain, Sweet Lulu’s Bakery On Wheels, Mac Daddy, and King of Pops.
